CVIU Call Center Hours are Changing! Please be advised that effective Monday, October 30, the CVIU Call Center’s hours of operation will change. The Call Center will be open from 8am – 5pm Monday – Friday 1-833-818-8752.
This site is for correctional staff at the Department of Corrections, Department of Juvenile Justice, and the Local and Regional Jails in assisting justice involved individuals in applying for and maintaining Medical Assistance.

The CVIU has a call center and an eligibility unit. You may contact the CVIU Call Center at 1-833-818-8752 Monday - Friday 8 am - 5 pm to:
- Submit a telephonic application or a renewal application.
- Obtain application status (you must pass the identity proofing process, see the requirements in the Medicaid Application Process Guide).
- Make general inquiries.
You may contact CVIU eligibility at cviu.eligibility@coverva.org. (You must also pass the identity proofing process, and follow the email subject line template on page 10 of the Renewal Process Presentation, see below)
Good to know:
Eligibility for Medicaid must be evaluated for renewal every 12 months. Anyone with Medicaid coverage, including individuals who are incarcerated, must renew their Medicaid coverage annually for continual coverage.
- Most renewals can be processed Ex Parte (automatically). For these renewals, your facility will receive a Notice of Action for continued coverage by mail for enrollees whose coverage is renewed.
- For other enrollees, your facility will receive a Renewal Packet in the mail. This should be completed and returned via email (cviu.eligibility@coverva.org) or mailed within 30 days. Enrollees can also complete the renewal application by calling the CVIU Call Center at 1-833-818-8752. There is a 90 day Reconsideration Period in case this is not possible. Once the returned Renewal Packet is processed, your facility will receive a Notice of Action for continued coverage or a Notice of Action with an explanation of why coverage is terminated. If an enrollee does not return a Renewal Packet. They may reapply for Medicaid at any time.
